The aim of the project is to continue the study of configuration spaces of mechanical linkages (that is, mechanisms made of rigid bars joined at the endpoints by pin-joints) in the framework of an approach developed by the participants of the projectin the special case of polygonal linkage. Our approach is based on the investigation ofcritical points of various Morse functions on configuration spaces such as the orientedarea, Coulomb energy and several other geometrically and physically meaningfulfunctions. This approach has already led to a substantial progress in various aspects ofpolygonal linkages.
